You may choose any of the following as an emphasis in cognitive
and biological psychology: affective neuroscience, animal
learning, behavioral pharmacology, cognitive neuroscience,
cognitive science, human learning and memory, neuroimaging,
psychoacoustics, psychobiology, and vision.
Students are drawn to our program by the interdisciplinary
interests of professors in the cognitive and biological program
and the prospect of working with top-notch faculty.
Cognitive and biological program faculty work closely with
faculty in psychology programs and in related areas, such
as behavior genetics, child development, computer science,
neuroscience, educational psychology, the Center for Cognitive
Sciences, management information systems, neurology, communication
disorders, and the Center for Magnetic Resonance Research.
Many of the faculty and students participate in the flourishing
programs in neuroscience and cognitive science.
Students become involved with research as soon as they enter
the program and complete a first year research project. Our
faculty will help you tailor your graduate program to meet
your needs and interests. Courses and seminars cover many
topics related to cognitive and biological psychology, and
we encourage you to take courses in other departments. You
may also elect to minor in neuroscience or cognitive science.
We look for students who have completed undergraduate work
in perception, cognition, learning, physiological psychology,
statistics, biology/zoology, math and physics or chemistry. Publications or previous
experience in teaching or research is also highly regarded.
