Suggested Supporting Programs and Minors

The Ph.D. program of study consists of two parts: a program for the major field, and a program for a minor field or a supporting program or an internal supporting program.

The program for the minor field is prescribed by the minor Department, which should be consulted for specific details.

A supporting program consists of courses drawn from at least two other fields (departments) and is intended to provide the student with knowledge and skills that complement the major field.

An internal supporting program is drawn from courses within the Department and should be in an area of psychology distinct from the student's specialty (e.g., for counseling students, experimental, psychometrics, social, industrial/organizational).

Minors or supporting programs consist of a minimum of 12 credits (about 4-6 courses). The list of minors and supporting programs below is not exhaustive. Students should consult with their advisors about creating or choosing a supporting program or minor that is best for them.
