Perceptual Learning

Performance on almost all visual tasks improves with practice. Several projects in the lab are investigating the neural plasticity that underlies such perceptual learning. In one study, practice on a simple detection task produced large changes in neural activity in primary visual cortex that were measured with fMRI. We are currently attempting to determine more precisely how receptive fields in V1 can change with practice.
