Graduate Admission Statistics, 2007
The number of applicants admitted each fall varies from program to program; however, generally enough applicants are accepted to ensure an entering class of approximately 20-25 students. Of the 512 applications received for fall 2007, 40 students were admitted. This resulted in an entering class of 25 students. The following includes the number of applications received by area followed by the number of students admitted: biological psychopathology (6/0), clinical (171/5), cognitive and biological (51/8), counseling (79/7), industrial/organizational (95/8), personality, individual differences, and behavioral genetics (16/3), quantitative/psychometric methods (17/3), school (0/0), and social (72/6). In addition, there were 5 incomplete files with no area listed. The applicant pool consisted of 67% female and 33% male.
The student characteristics for the 40 admitted students included 47.5% female and 52.5% male. The mean overall grade point average was 3.70, the mean combined verbal and quantitative score on the Graduate Record Exam was 1401 (V-658, Q-743). The mean GRE Subject Test in Psychology score was 724. The following table shows the distribution by GRE and GPA of 38 students for whom both figures were available. These ranges are intended only as guidelines; many applicants with similar grades and test scores are rejected each year because of space limitations.
