Graduate Admission Statistics, 2011
The number of applicants admitted each fall varies from program to program; however, generally enough applicants are accepted to ensure an entering group of approximately 20-25 students for the Department as a whole. Of the 385 applications received for fall 2011, 37 students were admitted and 22 students entered. The total applicant pool consisted of 71% female and 29% male. The student characteristics for the 37 admitted students included 65% female and 35% male. The mean overall grade point average was 3.74, the mean combined verbal and quantitative score on the Graduate Record Exam was 1368 (V-639, Q-729). The mean GRE Subject Test in Psychology score was 736.
The following table shows the distribution by GRE and GPA of all applicants who were admitted over the last three years and for whom both figures were available. Much additional information is used to make admissions decisions, and these ranges are intended only as guidelines. Many applicants with similar grades and test scores are rejected each year because of space limitations.
