READ newspapers, trade publications, professional journals, and business periodicals (e.g., the Wall Street Journal). These provide a broad range of openings for which you may be qualified to fill. In addition, check each newspaper and periodical not only for advertised job opportunities but for other potential leads that could create job opportunities for jobs not yet published (e.g., articles announcing new products, personnel changes, business expansion).

TALK to family, friends, professors, associates, or any personal contact who may know about available openings with prospective employers.

VISIT the nearest State Employment Office. They will provide information concerning local listings as well as employment service offices in other cities and states. In Minnesota, the State Employment office has more job listings than any other single source.

CALL the largest employer in the country--the US Government. Contact the Federal Job Information Center at 1-800-555-1212 to inquire about job openings.

PREPARE in advance by learning all you can about any employer for whom you would like to work. Then, seek out the person most likely to be in a position to hire you.

LOG-ON to the World Wide Web which has numerous sites posting job listings.
