When beginning a search for scholarships, it’s best to develop a strategy. Scholarship information is available from a variety of sources, including:
- Mortensen Scholarships & Awards
The Department of Psychology is proud to offer Junita J. Mortensen Scholarships & Awards for psychology undergraduate students. Scholarships and awards are available for a variety of learning objectives. Scholarships include academic scholarships to support campus-based study (five $1000 scholarships for 2005-07) and a study abroad scholarship to support off-campus international study (one $1000 scholarship for study abroad during 2006-07). Awards include travel awards and research awards (several at $250 each) to support undergraduate participation in psychological research and professional conference attendance. Travel and research awards are available for use during the remainder of the current academic year. Award applications will be accepted beginning in September 2006 and on a rolling basis until the annual funds are exhausted. The deadline to apply for the Mortensen Scholarships will be January 29, 2007. If you have additional questions after reviewing the on-line documents, please contact Holly Hatch-Surisook at hhatch@umn.edu or (612) 626-0809.

CLA Honors has information and application materials for a variety of scholarships for students (not necessarily in Honors) who have GPAs of 3.5 or better. These scholarships range from general scholarships for academic achievement to scholarships targeted to populations with special concerns— non-traditional students, new transfer students, minority students, or students with particular academic interests. CLA Honors also has information about national scholarships and assists students applying for these awards.
- UROP

The Undergraduate Research Opportunities program supports research or creative projects undertaken in partnership with a faculty member. Financial awards of up to $1700 are offered twice a year to full time undergraduates. These grants provide students an excellent opportunity to receive a stipend for work on a research project of their own design.
