Juanita J. Mortensen Scholarships

Junita J. Mortensen Scholarships are offered to support the undergraduate education and academic enhancement of psychology majors within the discipline. Each year several academic scholarships and one study abroad scholarship, each in the amount of $1000, are awarded to undergraduate psychology students. These scholarships are only available to formally declared psychology majors.

Mortensen Academic Scholarship in Psychology
This academic scholarship is intended for psychology undergraduate majors to be used toward the cost of tuition, fees and books. Selection criteria include: 1) strength of students' academic record and promise; 2) depth of involvement in the discipline and clarity of academic purpose; 3) strength of students' statements and letters of recommendation, with preference given to those written by Department of Psychology faculty and instructors; 4) past involvement in relevant extracurricular, volunteer, research and work activities. These awards are intended for our most talented majors. Up to five (5) $1000 scholarships will be awarded each spring semester for the upcoming academic year.

Mortensen Study Abroad Scholarship in Psychology
The study abroad scholarship will be awarded each year to a psychology major studying abroad for a semester or an academic year. Selection criteria include: 1) academic performance in the major; 2) strength of students' statements and letters of recommendation; and 3) the student's integration of study abroad within her/his psychology major academic plan. We may also take into consideration whether or not the student has had a previous study abroad experience.
