Planning for Graduation

Graduation Planning Questionnaire

As your senior year approaches, there are steps you need to take to insure that you will be able to graduate on time, with no worries. From verifying that you have taken all of your required courses to filling out all of the proper paperwork, we will outline what you need to do in order to receive your diploma.

  • Appointment with your CLA advisor
This appointment is extremely important because it verifies that you have completed all of the requirements necessary to graduate from the College of Liberal Arts.  Your CLA advisor is the person who looks closely at your entire academic record and determines that you have completed all CLA degree requirements.  Call your CLA Student Community to set up an appointment. Need contact information? See the CLA Student Services Website.
  • Appointment with a major advisor in psychology
Known as your Junior/Senior Check-in, this appointment is critical to verify that you have met all of your psychology major requirements. In addition, you will be provided with resources to consult for pursuing your post-graduation endeavors and you will have an opportunity to give your advisor feedback regarding your experience as an undergraduate psychology student. If you haven't already completed this appointment, e-mail or call us right away to schedule a time at psyadvis@umn.edu or 612-625-8520. To prepare for your Junior/Senior Check-in, please complete a Graduation Planning Questionnaire and bring this along when you go to see a psychology advisor for your appointment. Without completing this necessary application, you can jeopardize graduating on time. Typically, you must apply for graduation by the end of the second week of the term in which you'd like to graduate.
  • Make use of campus resources
There are many resources available to you on campus, from looking at graduate schools to travel opportunities to employment services. Don't pass up the chance to use these free resources! See the One Stop, CCLC or the CLA Student Services site for lots of possibilities.
