INTERNSHIP INFORMATION

Everyone keeps telling you that internships are a great way to get experience, find employment, and convince graduate school admissions that you are worth your beans, but how do you find one?

FINDING AN INTERNSHIP
Are you looking for an internship in the human services? Attend a session to learn why an internship experience is important, how to approach an organization you would like to work with, how to make the most of your internship experience, and which organizations are looking for your help.
Student Community and the Career and Community Learning Center B33 Johnston Hall.

INTERNSHIP GRANTS
The Career and Community Learning Center offers the following competitive $1200 awards each semester:
  • CLA Undergraduate Internship Award: four - six grants are generally awarded each round

To apply, you must meet the following conditions:

    • Be an already-admitted, degree-seeking student in the College of Liberal Arts at the UofM
    • Be of sophomore standing or above
    • Have not previously received this grant
    • Be already engaged in an internship or have been accepted into an internship position that meets the following conditions:
      • You are completing or will complete a minimum of 120 hours of work at the site.
      • You have been assigned a supervisor at your internship site who will verify your work hours and help ensure that you have a good internship experience.
      • Your work is off-campus and not directly connected to a University department/unit or to a University faculty/staff member.
      • You are not receiving a salary for your internship work. Small "perks" such as occasional lunches, free tickets, parking privileges, etc., do not count as salary. Modest stipends (less than $100 total) do not count as salary either.
      • Deadlines:
        Fall: 4th Wednesday in September
        Spring: 2nd Wednesday in February
        Summer: 4th Wednesday in June
Also available from the CCLC:
  • Engebretson Award: granted to a student doing an internship in a for-profit setting (one is awarded per year)
  • Elden Johnson Award: designated for a student who is working with public archaeology, museums or American Indian Studies in some way
  • Paul Taylor Award: supplemental monies ($600) for an English major doing a writing-intensive internship. Eligible students who also are receiving one of the "regular" grants may be nominated by the CLA Undergraduate Internship Grant committee for this award. The English Department makes the final decision for this award.
Applicants turning in their application packets will automatically be considered for all grants for which they are eligible.
