Psy 3996:
Undergraduate Fieldwork and Internship in Psychology

Psy 3996: Undergraduate Fieldwork and Internship in Psychology is an applied course in the Department of Psychology designed to offer undergraduate students the opportunity to develop practical, work-related skills through service. You will also learn how the discipline of psychology is at work in the larger community and how a major in psychology can prepare you for various careers.

Course Requirements
It is imperative that you apply for and accept an internship placement and position in the seminar with a full commitment to completing the Spring internship and associated course requirements.

The course consists of the following components:

1. Class meeting: Psy 3996 is a 4 credit, 15 week Spring semester course. Students will participate in a twice weekly seminar, for a total of three classroom hours per week, in addition to internship hours.

2. Academic work: Students will attend the bi-weekly seminar, complete reflective exercises, complete readings related to each area of the discipline represented by internship sites, participate in discussions intended to deepen their understanding of applications of psychological concepts, and complete a final paper and oral presentation. A portion of the course will also be devoted to students' career development.

3. Internship experience: Students must secure an internship independently and may then apply for acceptance into the course by completing a screening form available at: http://www.psych.umn.edu/undergrad/psy3996external.pdf. The instructor will consider your application and provide you with permission for course registration upon acceptance.
